Poker and Artificial Intelligence: Machines Against Humans and What It Could Mean for Those of Us Who Aren’t Gamblers

September 21, 2017 – Today’s guest blog contributor is Josh Wardini, Editorial Contributor and Community Manager at the pokersites.me.uk. Josh’ background includes communication and community development. He works day-to-day to reshape human resource management in digitally based companies.

The topic he has chosen to share with us looks at how applying artificial intelligence (AI) to poker could lead to advances in the fields of security management, banking, and other fields. Now, normally I’m the last guy to look at betting applications and their significance. I don’t gamble. I don’t buy lottery tickets. And I have deep concerns about the government using gambling to raise funds largely from those who can least afford to see their money taken by those promoting a false narrative.

But this infographic is intriguing in so many ways and fits very well as a follow-up to a prior blog post written back on January 9, 2017, describing Carnegie Mellon University’s project aimed at showing how an AI system built to play poker could compete with 4 of the world’s best professional players. You’ll find mention of it in the infographic.
