Cool Infographic Illustrates Autonomous Vehicles and Their Deployment in the Near Future

February 22, 2017 – One of my readers, Karen Smith, alerted me to a research project done by Get Off Road, which has produced a graphic tracing the history, growth and future of the autonomous car market. She has kindly included an introduction to the graphic which I pass along to you, my readers. I encourage comments and feedback, and contributions to 21st Century Tech Blog similar to this.

Did you know, experiments have been conducted on automating cars since at least the 1920s, promising trials took place in the 1950s and the first self-sufficient and truly autonomous cars appeared in the 1980s? This means the idea of making self-driven cars was conceived of on paper before we actually started creating the technology to make them possible. To learn more take a gander at the accompanying infographic which shows the science behind the design of the technology and how challenges have been and are being addressed by engineers in this burgeoning transportation field.
